No Sleep | A book for ’90s flyer art nostalgics

From word of mouth, to flyers, to Facebook events, to Instagram GIFs. Promoting events has changed a great deal in the past thirty years.

No Sleep: NYC Nightlife Flyers, 1988-1999, published by powerHouse, is a book for the all the generations of teenagers and young adults who used to fill up their pockets with flyers at every night or event, to then wallpaper their bedrooms with them.

Stretch Armstrong, famous in the NY hip hop scene for his show on WKCR 89.9, and Evan Auerbach, rap historian and memorabilia collector, joined forces to tell the story of the NY nightclub scene in the nineties through flyer art.

An impressing collection made of flyers collected over a decade by artists, club-goers, djs and promoters that shows how the obsolete art of creating flyers, which wasn’t considered art at the time, evolved in such a short time.

If you miss the good old times of the pre-digital era as we do, No Sleep is a visual adventure that’ll take you straight back to the ‘90s.
